Course Description

Course content: Approximately 50% analytical essay writing, 20% creative writing, and 30% assessment support. Target level/skills: This writing class is customised for senior students preparing for high-stakes assessment and examination writing. Students in this class will be coached on how to develop sophisticated argumentation, sustain conceptual depth, and maintain precision in written expression with close attention to marking criteria and examination expectations. Further, students will be coached on how to refine analytical control under time constraints and respond effectively to examination-style questions. Students will be assigned regular homework to consolidate their understanding of the content covered in class. Please note: While the writing skills do target the necessary skills set out by the NSW English curriculum, the specific themes/topics/texts covered in this course may not directly reflect or overlap with individual school content. Outcome: Students should have a more consolidated understanding of how to produce sustained, well-structured analytical responses under examination conditions. A review test will be conducted to monitor the termly progress of the students.
