Persuasive & Creative Writing
Course Description
Schedule: Approximately 50% persuasive writing and 50% creative writing. Objectives: The lessons are customised to help students enhance their individual academic writing skills - particularly in persuasive and creative writing. Students will be coached on how best to work with their idiosyncratic strengths and weaknesses in thinking and writing to meet standard writing requirements. Content Specificity: In general, the stimuli will target standard mainstream topics (baseline topics such as “Schools Should Teach Driving”) initially. Competent students will then be prompted with more nuanced questions (more informed, critical/creative topics such as “Should There Be a One World Government?”). Outcome: By working on both their strengths and weaknesses in critical/creative thinking and application, students are expected to display confidence in their ability to write stronger persuasive and creative pieces.
Administration
/ Schedule: 2025 Term 4 starts on Monday 13th OCTOBER and ends on Friday 19th DECEMBER (10 weeks/sessions). Parents DO NOT need to select the day/time on this website, the schedule is as notified individually. / Cooling-off period: Students may withdraw from the course immediately after the first session; before the second session. / Withdrawals: No sessions in part or in whole may be withdrawn after the cooling-off period. / Rescheduling: If you need a particular lesson to be rescheduled, please notify us at least 1 week in advance. On the day cancellations cannot be rescheduled. / Communication (holidays): 9:30 AM - 8:00 PM are teaching hours during the holidays. 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM are consulting hours.
