Course Description
Please note that this is a special class this term, targeting Extension concepts for current Stage 6 students and students who are interested in Extension English. The class is by invitation only. Course content: Approximately 40% higher-order concept coverage, approximately 40% analytical essay writing, 10% creative writing, and 10% assessment support. Target level/skills: This writing class is customised for senior students preparing for high-stakes assessment and examination writing. Students in this class will be coached on how to develop sophisticated argumentation, sustain conceptual depth, and maintain precision in written expression with close attention to marking criteria and examination expectations. Further, students will be coached on how to refine analytical control under time constraints and respond effectively to examination-style questions. Students will be assigned regular homework to consolidate their understanding of the content covered in class. Please note: While the writing skills do target the necessary skills set out by the NSW English curriculum, the specific themes/topics/texts covered in this course may not directly reflect or overlap with individual school content. Outcome: Students should have a more consolidated understanding of how to produce sustained, well-structured analytical responses under examination conditions. A review test will be conducted to monitor the termly progress of the students.
Administration
/ Schedule: Term 4, 2026 commences on Tuesday 13 October and concludes on Thursday 17 December 2026. The term consists of 10 weekly sessions. / Withdrawals & Cancellations: Students may withdraw after the first session and before the second session. After this period, enrolment is confirmed for the remainder of the term. / Rescheduling: Due to carefully balanced cohorts and limited schedule availability, rescheduling cannot be accommodated. If a student misses a class, they may attend another class of the same level within the same week, subject to availability. Otherwise, class content will be emailed for catch-up. / General Schedule: Sessions run as normal on public holidays unless otherwise notified. / Term Operating Hours: Teaching hours are Tuesday to Thursday, 3:30–9:00 PM during the term. / Consultations: Consultations are available from 1:00–3:00 PM. Please arrange a consultation through the available consultation services to discuss any concerns regarding academic progress.
