Year 12 Class - Thursday 7:30 PM

Analytical Rigour & Precision

Course Description

Course Content 60% analytical essay writing, 20% creative and discursive composition, and 20% assessment support, focusing on critical interpretation, conceptual development, analytical precision and examination strategies. Objectives Lessons are delivered in carefully balanced cohorts according to students’ academic abilities and learning priorities. Targeted instruction strengthens interpretive independence, structural control and compositional flexibility while refining individual strengths. Content Specificity Students engage with unseen texts, CC&M-selected prescribed texts and examination-style tasks to develop nuanced interpretations and sustained arguments. Lessons emphasise conceptual differentiation, textual analysis, evidence integration and precise expression. School Content & Alignment As prescribed texts and interpretive approaches vary across schools, students are expected to maintain sound knowledge of their school content and assessment requirements. Instruction focuses on aligning established analytical and writing strategies with school-related content, complementing independent preparation and school instruction. Assessment Support Provisions Sessions and submission deadlines follow fixed instructional and marking schedules. Students are expected to adhere to communicated provisions to facilitate timely feedback and refinement. Cohort-Specific Provisions This programme is offered to the current Year 12 cohort for one term only. Given the cohort’s later enrolment and recently assessed academic competencies, students have been individually advised to seek supplementary support where appropriate. The scope and duration of this provision have been communicated to participating families. End-of-Term Review A term-based assessment evaluates targeted analytical and compositional competencies, providing an indication of students’ progress within the course rather than a comprehensive measure of their overall HSC examination readiness. Expected Outcomes Through guided practice and progressive refinement, the course aims to foster interpretive independence, conceptual depth, analytical coherence and compositional precision. Note on Learning Progression Selected questions and texts may be revisited strategically to consolidate skills, deepen interpretations and extend responses towards greater clarity, depth and precision.
