Course Description
Course Content Approximately 60% essay writing, 20% creative writing and 20% assessment support, focusing on analytical development, academic structure, formal expression and effective writing strategies. Objectives Lessons are delivered in carefully balanced cohorts, considering students’ academic abilities, learning needs and developmental goals. The course strengthens analytical reasoning, structural control and precision in written expression through targeted instruction and guided practice. Content Specificity Students engage with unseen texts, CC&M-selected prescribed texts, analytical questions and diverse writing stimuli to develop purposeful arguments and sustained interpretations. Lessons emphasise logical progression, textual evidence, analytical elaboration and creative expression. Weekly homework reinforces learning and independent application. Curriculum Alignment The course targets relevant NSW English curriculum competencies, although selected texts and activities may differ from individual school programmes. Assessment support emphasises the application of established writing strategies to school-based requirements. Assessment Support Provisions Assessment support sessions are strategically scheduled for focused preparation, feedback and refinement. Session dates and submission deadlines are fixed according to instructional and marking schedules. Students must adhere strictly to the communicated provisions to ensure timely review and preparation. End-of-Term Review Students complete a review assessment covering analytical and compositional skills and strategies. Aligned with the term’s instructional content, the assessment evaluates progression in targeted core competencies rather than comprehensive academic capabilities. Results inform subsequent learning priorities. Expected Outcomes Through guided practice, feedback and progressive refinement, the course aims to strengthen students’ independence, adaptability and confidence, alongside analytical clarity, structural coherence and expressive precision. Note on Learning Progression Selected questions, texts and stimuli may be revisited strategically to consolidate skills, deepen interpretation and extend responses towards greater clarity, depth and precision. Emphasis remains on progressive development alongside exposure to new material.
